The mission of the Council is to promote and enhance the economic vitality of the community through the retention and/or expansion of existing business and the resource appropriate attraction of new business. Further, the Council will work in a variety of ways to promote a suitable climate for quality economic development in all its forms; industrial, commercial, institutional, retail and residential.

State of the Market
The years 2018 and 2019 were record-setting years for Rockdale County and the City of Conyers for new commercial/industrial construction. Our outlook for 2020 shows another year of continued growth for existing and new businesses. We continue to expand our local industries while attracting new investments as well.

A highly-trained and qualified workforce is key to any successful business. We have a number of advanced manufacturing companies and a qualified workforce capable of operating in these challenging environments. Partnerships with the Technical College System of Georgia Technical Schools and the Quick Start Workforce Training Program provide the workforce you need to succeed.
Georgia’s High Demand Career Initiative
In order to meet the increased demands of industry the High Demand Career Initiative (HDCI) allows state partners involved in training Georgia’s future workforce – primarily the University System of Georgia (USG) and the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) – to hear directly from the private sector about what specific needs they have from a workforce perspective.

Pratt Industries Grows Again
Pratt Industries, an international paper recycling and box manufacturer broke ground today on its new Conyers solid waste transfer station. This is the first phase of a planned $13 million “eco campus” that will bring 40-50 new jobs to the Conyers/Rockdale area. The transfer station construction is part of Pratt’s bid for the recycling and solid waste collection contract with the City of Conyers.
RMSST Student Participates in White House Science Fair
Jasmine Johnson, a senior at the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology, was one of only 100 students in the country invited to present her scientific research project at the White House Science Fair this past Monday. Jasmine presented her work in the Red Room of the East Wing to top U.S. officials such as the Chief Technology Officer of the United States, Todd Park, and the Director of the National Institutes of Health, Francis Collins. She also had a chance to share her research with popular television science celebrities such as Bill Nye and LeVar Burton.
